Eritrean Athletes Seek
Political Asylum

A
well-known runner in women’s track and field Ms. Simret Sultan has
sought political asylum in Great Britain. Ms. Simret had represented
Eritrea in the 2008 summer Olympics held in Beijing and competed in the
track and field women’s 5000m. She also participated in the special
Olympic Games held in Scotland in January this year. Ms. Simret sought
political asylum after participating in the same sport that was recently
held in Spain.
In
addition, another athlete by the name Miraf is heading to Scandinavian
countries to seek political asylum.
In
recent years, a number of Eritrean athletes and artists have sought
political asylum in countries such as Sudan, Ethiopia, Portugal, and
Australia … etc.
